Make a Strategic Impact Where It Matters Most

Heretaunga Kindergartens is a not-for-profit organisation delivering quality, teacher-led early childhood education across 16 kindergartens in the Hawke’s Bay region. We are committed to tamariki, whānau, and community through strong local governance and strategic leadership.

We’re seeking new community board members to bring fresh perspectives and strengthen our board team. Whether you have governance experience or are keen to develop it, this is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to an organisation that makes a real difference for tamariki and their whānau throughout our communities

We are looking for someone who can:

✅ Bring strong understanding of governance best practice and experience operating at a strategic level
✅ Apply the Four Pillars of Governance (as outlined by the Institute of Directors):

  • Determining Purpose
  • Effective Governance Culture
  • Holding to Account
  • Effective Compliance

✅ Contribute confidently to strategic planning, performance monitoring, and risk management
✅ Understand or support the value of bicultural practice and community-led education
✅ Collaborate constructively with a values-based, community-focused board

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a kaupapa that directly supports quality education and equity for tamariki
  • Collaborate with passionate professionals and kaiako
  • Help shape the future of kindergarten in the Hawke’s Bay

Who Should Apply?

We welcome applications from individuals with experience or interest in the public, education, health, or not-for-profit sectors. While governance experience is beneficial, it is not essential. Knowledge of early childhood education is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Time commitment is approximately 4–8 hours per month, including board meetings and sub-committee involvement. The position is unpaid but deeply rewarding.
