Pay and Conditions

All teachers in Heretaunga Kindergartens are covered by the pay and conditions as stated in the national Collective Employment Agreement for Kindergarten Teachers, negotiated by NZEI: Te Riu Roa.

This is one of the few collective agreements in the Early Childhood Sector and provides national coverage for a national service.

This agreement also includes a commitment by the Government to pay parity for kindergarten teachers with primary and secondary teachers and this was fully implemented in 2006.

All Kindergarten teachers are covered by the State Sector Act and therefore employment negotiations are carried out directly with the Ministry of Education, rather than with individual Associations.

We offer excellent professional development opportunities, 6 weeks annual leave per year, as well as term breaks, additional sick leave entitlements, registration support, excellent professional support and guidance.

Professional Standards

A set of Professional Standards for kindergarten teachers has been established under the Teachers collective employment agreement.

Professional Standards have been designed to establish national consistency in performance management while remaining sufficiently flexible so to enable individual teachers to adapt them to their particular climate, culture and community.

For more information on Professional Standards please email The Education Managers.

Reliever Teaching
