Nau mai haere mai - Welcome

We welcome all whānau and tamariki and work hard to ensure tamariki and families alike develop a real sense of belonging within our kindergarten environment. At Lakeview Kindergarten we have strong connections to our community. Tamariki learn actively in collaboration with peers and through engagement with teachers. Tamariki learn through play and are consistently afforded opportunities to follow their interest and to express themselves in a rich and varied curriculum. We facilitate a positive, warm, and calm atmosphere for tamariki and whānau. We create the best possible education and learning outcomes for tamariki. Each tamaiti (child) at Lakeview has a key teacher and all tamariki have individual plans within which we work with families to promote the best possible learning outcomes for them.

We are committed to engaging with and promoting Te Ao Māori and meeting our commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi.

We foster learning around mindfulness and promote children’s self-regulation, emotional awareness and intelligence. We are an Enviroschool and have a strong focus on sustainable learning, undertaking weekly small group excursions to Ōtaia/Lindsay bush as part of our Enviroschools Kaupapa. Tamariki harvest and propogate seeds collected at Ōtaia then care for seedlings in our purpose built shadehouse, and are proud to be kaitiaki (guardians).

Vision and Philosophy

Our vision is to provide an environment where Kaiako support akonga to engage in playful learning, within a place that is mindful and sustainable.

At Lakeview kindergarten, tamariki learn with and alongside each other through free play with support from Kaiako.

Kaiako promote a sustainable taio through a mindful attitude, and with whanau support. The mana of tamariki is respected, valued and enhanced, by virtue of bicultural practice.

Our kindergarten is inviting, calm and nurturing with ongoing opportunities for open-ended unhurried play.

Tamariki are seen as taonga, whose learning and development is affirmed and celebrated.

Ko te ahurei o te tamaiti arahia ō a tatou māhi.
The Uniqueness of the child will guide our work.
