Camberley Philosophy
We believe that children are the absolute drivers of our curriculum and arrive in this world as competent beings. Teachers notice what children are doing and are interested in and respond in ways that extend, enrich and enhance children’s interests and learning. Where teachers allow experiences to extend over time, children have uninterrupted opportunities to build on, challenge and reconstruct their learning.
Whānau
We are a teaching team that is VERY open to, and actively seeks, whānau input and involvement. We welcome all family members who want to hang out at kindergarten and be a part of the day-to-day goings on as well as helping out during the session. We believe in supporting and strengthening relationships that are significant to children, their whānau, family, hapu and iwi. We believe these relationships are built on the values of respect, empathy, sharing and caring for others. This contributes to the learning of all children.
Community
We believe that local children and their whānau should have access to, and the opportunity to participate in, their local kindergarten and actively contribute to the running of the programme. We believe that teachers should act as guardians of the kindergarten who work to provide a welcoming, inviting and safe place for our community members to meet and become involved at whatever level they feel comfortable.
Teachers
We are a teaching team that greatly values the importance of children’s ability to engage in uninterrupted, complex play, rather than a structured and adult directed programme. Teachers are committed to high quality interactions and to role modelling socially acceptable and respectful behaviour that fosters empowerment and responsibility. The concept of ako is embraced since both teachers and children are competent beings who learn from one another.
